The aim of the PAUart project is to make the iconographic art and science collections kept at the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences and its partner institutions accessible to a wide circle of recipients . As of 2014, successive digitalization and scientific editing embraced the graphic collections from Gabinet Rycin (the Special Drawings Repository), photographs from the Special Collection of the Library of Science of the PAU and the PAN in Cracow, photographs from the Lanckoroński PAU Photothèque and the Archive of Science of the PAN and the PAU as well as various objects from the collection of the Polish Library in Paris.

In the years 2014–2021 as part of the project, more than 6700 thousand photographs were edited, digitalized and made accessible to the public; they came from the fonds of the Archive of Science of the PAN and the PAU in Cracow from the legacies of scholars and culture makers: art historians Karolina Lanckorońska (1898–2002) and Lech Kalinowski (1920–2004), philosopher Wincenty Lutosławski (1863–1954), geologist Walery Goetel (1889–1972), physicist Władysław Natanson (1864–1937) and linguist Kazimierz Nitsch (1874–1958).
